A product feed or data feed is a file made up of a list of products and attributes of those products organized so that each product can be displayed, advertised or compared in a unique way. A product feed typically contains a product image, title, product identifier, marketing copy, and product attributes.
Product feeds supply the content that is presented on many kinds of e-commerce websites such as search engines, price comparison websites, affiliate networks, and other similar aggregators of e-commerce information.
How do affiliates use them?
Affiliates primarily use product feeds to populate their website, app or campaign. They are an easier method to access your product data rather than visiting every product of your site for the information, which would take time and be tedious.
Additionally, if they manually created a product feed it's likely that a day later the information would be out of date, hence affiliates need a product data feed in order to automate the process.
Examples of affiliate types that use product feeds:
- Price Comparison Engines
- Product Discovery Apps
- Deal Aggregators
- Paid Search Affiliates
