Learn how advertisers can use custom variables to add campaign-specific data to reporting for better performance insights.
Custom variables let you pass unique data to Commission Factory when a conversion happens. These values appear in your reports to give more detailed insights into your campaign performance.
Custom variables were previously called "custom reference variables." We've updated the name to align with other configurable tools in the platform, like custom commissions and custom reports.
Which integration methods support custom variables?
Custom variables are supported through the following integration methods:
-
Custom shopping cart integration
-
Server-to-Server
-
Google Tag Manager (GTM)
For other cart types, you may need to re-integrate or use a data feed to include custom variables.
What data can I send using custom variables?
You can only send non-identifiable data through custom variables. We do not accept personally identifiable information (PII), such as:
-
Names
-
Email addresses

Phone numbers
-
Postal addresses
-

Examples of acceptable data include:
-
